Sandhole Oak Barn Wedding Photographer

Hello there,

I’m Dave from Dave Waller Photography, and if you’ve found this page you’re probably planning your wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn.

Sandhole is a working Cheshire farm with a six acre lake at the middle of it, and an oak barn along one side with full height windows looking straight out over the water. There is a clock tower on the far shore that you can be married under, and a great oak tree that gets floodlit once it goes dark.

I’ve photographed here more than once, and it is a venue that gives you a proper sense of place. Barn, water, farmland, sunset. It works.

My Wedding Photography Approach

Every couple, every wedding, every venue is different, and that is how I approach your day.

At Sandhole I’m there to tell the story of the day rather than run it. Documentary photography for the parts that happen on their own, relaxed portraits that don’t feel staged, and as little standing about as I can manage.

The lake does a lot of the work. Reflections, open sky, the verandah, the oak tree. We can get everything we need without taking you far from your guests.

Photographing a Wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn

Knowing a venue well changes what you come away with. Here is how a day at Sandhole tends to run from behind the camera.

The lake is the whole thing. Full height windows down one side of the barn, a verandah along the water, and a clock tower on the opposite shore. Whatever the weather does, there is water and sky in the frame.

An enchanting evening view of a quaint, well-lit cottage with a welcoming doorway, set against a twilight sky on Katie & Pete's wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn.

The evening is worth holding back for. The great oak on the far shore is floodlit once it goes dark, and the barn lights up. Ten minutes outside after the meal is usually the best ten minutes of the day.

Bring the dog early or not at all. Dogs are welcome for the ceremony and the photographs but have to leave before the wedding breakfast, so if your dog is part of the day we need to get them photographed properly rather than in a rush.

It ends at half twelve. Music stops in the Oak Barn at midnight and the venue closes at 12.30am, so if you want a sparkler exit or a last dance photograph, it needs to be in the running order rather than an afterthought.

A Short History of Sandhole Oak Barn

Sandhole is a working farm, and it has been in the Worth family since the 1920s. Weddings started here in 1995, which by the standards of barn venues makes it one of the older ones.

The Oak Barn itself is not a conversion. It was built in 2005, purpose designed for weddings, which is why it has the height, the windows and the underfloor heating that older barns tend not to.

The bedrooms are the genuinely old part. They are converted stable blocks, around three hundred years old, sitting behind the barn.
