Hazlewood Castle Wedding Photography

Congratulations on your decision to get married! Now that you’re exploring different wedding photographers, you might be wondering how to capture those beautiful memories without feeling like you’re posing all day. You’re not alone—many couples tell me they’d rather focus on enjoying their day than feeling like they’re in front of the camera the whole time. And while you’re planning your wedding, finding a photographer who understands this can make all the difference. You want genuine, candid moments to look back on, but if the thought of being in front of a camera all day feels daunting, don’t worry—I completely understand. In fact, you’d be surprised how many couples feel the same! Even as a photographer, I know what it’s like to feel uneasy on the other side of the lens. That’s why it’s so essential to choose a photographer whose presence feels comfortable and natural, so they can help you feel at ease on your big day.

If you want stunning wedding photos but dislike the idea of traditional posed shots, you’re not alone. I think the term “posed” can have a bit of a bad reputation in the world of wedding photography. You’ll see many photographers, including myself, using words like “documentary” and “natural” to describe their style. Capturing those real, unscripted moments of your wedding is something I truly love, and it’s at the heart of my approach—about 80% of the images I take on your day are candid, capturing moments as they unfold naturally. This relaxed, unobtrusive style is one of the main reasons couples choose me.

However, I also believe there’s value in a few beautifully guided, posed images. Now, when I say “posed,” I don’t mean anything cheesy or stiff. For me, posing is about helping you look and feel your best in a way that feels completely natural and true to who you are. Thoughtful posing is subtle—it’s about enhancing a moment and highlighting the best of you both without making you feel like you’re “posing” at all. So rest assured, together we’ll create a balanced collection of images that capture your day’s authentic story with just a few beautifully styled touches.

Good Posing Really Looks Completely Un-Posed

I understand this sounds completely cheesy but it really is true.  A photographer has a lot to thing about and good posing can be tricky but that’s one of the reasons I really enjoy it.  I do tend to position couples and then let them interact with each other, by doing this the couple relax and I am able to get the best of both. A well positioned image but then some natural interaction between the couple which shows their personality and who they are.

Stunning Portraits, Real Natural Moments from an award winning West Yorkshire Wedding Photographer

Relaxed Wedding Photography

On your wedding day please don’t worry I wont be stealing you away for endless portraits.  I will try and have you back to the main wedding as quick as possible but also capturing some stunning portraits of you both.  All I normally ask for is about 20 minuets, this is normally done between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast.  This is flexible tho, for example if you are having a church wedding you might want some pictures of you both at the church and then later at the venue.  I might also steal you away a little later in the day if for example we get a stunning sun set.

Normally the couple shoot consists of a short walk around the venue before finding some nice spots for pictures of you both.  Please don’t panic ill keep it super chilled I wont be shouting orders at you, there will be some direction and help to get the most out of the picture.  I promise tho to keep it super chilled out my aim is the while your being posed it wont feel that way at all.

Top tips for getting most out of your wedding day couple session.

– Firstly relax and don’t worry.  Don’t worry about how you look on the camera.  When you look back on your wedding pictures in years to come you will look back with joy and excitement reminiscing about your wedding day.  You won’t be looking back on that double chin or how your nose looked in the pictures.  Trust me on this one.

– Have a pre-wedding shoot.  This honestly is not a big sell, honestly, it’s not.  A couple  shoot can help you understand how I work and how I will work on your wedding day.  After the couple shoot, you will understand there really is nothing to worry about, you will also have some amazing pictures to look back on.  You can also use your couple shoot pictures for things like your save the dates, a signing board on your wedding day, or just a really nice Facebook profile pictures.

– Last top tip is to trust me.  The last thing I want to do is make you look bad.  literally, my job is to make you look good in stunning wedding pictures, so trust me to do this.  You can take a look over on my gallery to see some of my previous work.  Or take a look at my recent weddings page.
