Lorna & Oliver – Bagden Hall Hotel
Lorna & Oliver’s wedding at Bagden Hall in Yorkshire was one of those days that just fits the setting perfectly. Set within 40 acres of countryside, with the Victorian country house as a backdrop, the venue brings this mix of grand character and quiet calm that works so well for a wedding day.
Their day felt relaxed from the start, the kind of wedding where nothing feels rushed, and everything has space to breathe. From the moment guests arrived up the long drive through the grounds, there was that sense of stepping away from everyday life and into something a bit more special, a bit slower, in a good way.
Tell me more about you both.
We have been together 10 years this year. We went to the same high school but never knew each other, about 2 years after leaving school, Oli sent Lorna a message on facebook saying ‘Hi do I know you?’ And the conversation hasn’t stopped yet. Oli is quite a sociable guy with lots of friends, he plays rugby and we both really enjoy watching sports. Lorna is quieter and is happy as long as she has a book to read. We spent Covid apart living with our parents, we got engaged in 2023 and bought our first house not long after, we really started on the wedding planning in 2024.
What made you choose Bagden Hall Hotel for your wedding venue?
We had visited a few venues before viewing Bagden, but once we arrived we knew it was the place for us. We liked the size and the outside space and that we could have everything in one place rather than making guests travel, we liked the decor and love it even more with the recent renovation they have done on some of the rooms. The staff have all been lovely and the planning process has been really enjoyable with the team.

Bagden Hall Hotel has this really practical but still beautiful bridal prep space, and it worked perfectly for Lorna & Oliver’s morning.
The room was large enough that the whole bridal party could get ready together without it ever feeling cramped or chaotic. Hair, makeup, dresses, last minute bits being sorted, it all just naturally unfolded in one place, which always helps the energy of the morning feel calm rather than rushed.
With two photographers on the day, we were able to split coverage which made a big difference. While I stayed with Lorna and the bridal party in the prep room, capturing those quieter in between moments, the second photographer was with Oliver and the grooms party. It meant both sides of the morning were documented properly, without either feeling like an afterthought, and everything flowed really naturally right up to the ceremony.

Oliver’s groom prep at Bagden Hall Hotel had a really relaxed, easy energy to it. The grooms party got ready together in a calm space, with those quieter moments mixed in with a bit of laughter and last minute adjustments before heading into the ceremony. It never felt staged or forced, just everyone enjoying that build up before the day properly begins. Having a second photographer meant I could stay with the groom’s side throughout the morning, capturing those natural in between moments that often end up being some of the most honest photos of the day.
Wedding Day CEREMONY
The ceremony at Bagden Hall Hotel took place in a really generous, light-filled space that easily accommodated all of the guests without ever feeling tight or crowded. There was a calm anticipation in the room as everyone settled, waiting for Lorna to make her entrance.
One of the most memorable parts was Lorna choosing to walk down the aisle on her own. It added a really personal, quiet confidence to the moment and gave the ceremony a slightly different rhythm, more intimate in a way, with all eyes naturally following her down the aisle before she joined Oliver at the front.
CONFETTI, and lots of it.
The confetti moment outside Bagden Hall Hotel was exactly what you hope for on a wedding day, lots of energy, lots of movement, and genuinely loads of confetti in the air. Guests really went for it, and it created that proper tunnel of celebration as Lorna and Oliver made their way through.
The front of the hotel is such a strong spot for this part of the day. It opens out nicely, gives everyone space to gather, and the building itself makes a great backdrop without needing anything extra. It just works, especially for those natural, slightly chaotic moments right after the ceremony when everyone is still buzzing.
A relaxed moment before the group photos
After the confetti, there was a really nice pause before moving into group photos at Bagden Hall Hotel. I always think this part of the day gets overlooked a bit, but it’s honestly one of the best.
It gives everyone a chance to properly come over, congratulate the couple, and just be in the moment for a while. Lots of hugs, a bit of laughter, people catching up with each other after the ceremony. Nothing rushed, nothing staged.
And from a photography point of view, it’s gold. Those in between interactions, the natural reactions, the way people are still a bit emotional and excited, it all makes for some of the most honest images of the day before we then bring everyone together for the group shots.

Group photos at Bagden Hall Hotel are always an important part of the day, but I like to keep this section feeling relaxed and efficient so it never pulls the energy down.
We worked through the list fairly quickly, keeping things simple and organised so everyone knew where they needed to be. It means the couple get all the key family combinations, without spending too long away from their guests or the flow of the day.
Once they’re done, the day naturally opens back up again, and you can feel that shift as everyone relaxes properly into the celebrations.

This is usually one of my favourite parts of the day at Bagden Hall Hotel. It’s the first proper moment Lorna & Oliver get to step away together and actually take it all in for a few minutes.
We kept things really relaxed, nothing overly posed or forced. Just a short walk around the grounds, using the quieter spots and natural light to let things unfold properly. That mix of the building, the gardens, and the surrounding Yorkshire countryside gives so much variety without needing to overthink it.
It never felt like “stop and pose for photos”, more just a breather in the day where they could be themselves. From a storytelling point of view, this is where everything kind of settles and the images start to feel a bit more emotional and grounded, which is always what I’m aiming for as a Yorkshire wedding photographer.
Wedding Speeches at Bagden Hall
The speeches at Bagden Hall Hotel brought a really nice shift in energy. There was a mix of everything, the lighter funny moments that had everyone laughing, right through to the more emotional parts that clearly caught a few people off guard in the best way.
From a photography point of view, it’s one of those parts of the day where you get so many candid reactions all at once. Guests fully engaged, people wiping away a tear, then suddenly laughing again a second later. It’s chaotic in a good way, and honestly some of the most natural storytelling images of the whole wedding come from this part of the day.
Evening Wedding Party
As the day moved into the evening at Bagden Hall Hotel, the atmosphere completely shifted into full celebration mode. The formalities were done, and what followed was just pure energy.
The dance floor filled quickly and stayed that way for most of the night, with guests throwing themselves into it properly. Nothing felt staged or held back, just a packed room, good music, and everyone fully in the moment.
From a documentary perspective, this is where the day really loosens up. The movement, the laughter, the slightly chaotic dance floor moments, it all adds up to a really honest finish to the story of the wedding.
Twilight Wedding Day images
As the evening settled over Bagden Hall Hotel, we took a few moments for some twilight portraits to finish the day in a slightly different way. This is always a nice shift after the energy of the dance floor, something calmer, more atmospheric.
On this particular wedding, the weather actually worked in our favour. It had started to rain, which meant we were able to create a really striking rain shot with the lights and reflections coming into play. It added something a bit unexpected, and honestly it became one of those images that stands out from the whole gallery.
These final moments are often where you get something a bit more creative and intentional. A quiet pause before everything wraps up, and a chance to end the story of the day with something a little more unique than the usual evening portraits.
Lorna & Oliver’s wedding at Bagden Hall Hotel was such a brilliant day to be part of, from the quiet moments in the morning through to a packed dance floor in the evening. Everything had this really natural flow to it, nothing felt overworked or forced, just a genuine celebration surrounded by the people who matter most. A proper Yorkshire wedding day, and one I’ll remember for a while.
