Sam and Ross – Thief Hall for wedding
Sam and Ross chose Thief Hall for their wedding, and despite a slightly wet start to the day, it turned into a perfect celebration. This modern wedding barn in North Yorkshire is a blank canvas, letting couples put their own unique stamp on the day. From choosing their caterers and entertainment to adding extra décor, Sam and Ross made it entirely their own. The indoor ceremony kept everyone comfortable while the energy and excitement for the party ahead built steadily throughout the day.
As a Thief Hall wedding photographer, days like this are a joy to capture. With both Sam and Ross getting ready on site, the day flowed naturally, giving plenty of opportunities to document genuine, fun, and unforgettable moments that reflect their personalities.

How did you both meet?
We met online and after chatting for a while we arranged to meet up for a drink at the local bar. Several dates later and we realised we weren’t getting rid of each other anytime soon. We spent a lot of time outside walking up mountains as it was lockdown so we weren’t allowed inside with each other.
We both have a similar sense of humour, we’re both big kids inside and love going on adventures together.
Please tell me about the proposal.
Ross got down on one knee in Edinburgh during a weekend break in December. He planned to do it on top of Arthurs seat but Sam was grumpy because she was hungry and cold. So he waited to do it in the hotel and surprised Sam with a Christmas bauble that said ‘First Christmas Engaged’. Then Ross took Sam to see Wicked her favourite musical.

Bride Prep at Thief Hall
Sam’s morning began in the special prep room at Thief Hall, a space designed with everything a bride might need to get ready comfortably. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, with friends and family around, plenty of laughter, and those little moments of excitement that make a wedding morning so memorable.
With two photographers on the day, I was able to stay with Sam while the second photographer captured Ross and the boys getting ready. This meant every detail, every smile, and every spontaneous moment could be documented naturally, without anyone feeling rushed or posed. From the hair and makeup finishing touches to the final moments before she stepped into her dress, it was a morning full of energy, anticipation, and joy.

Groom Wedding Day PREPARATION.
Ross got ready at Thief Hall as well, and having two photographers on the day meant both sides of the story could be covered without missing a moment. He got ready in good time, which gave us the chance to capture some relaxed groomsmen shots around the venue.
The atmosphere was fun and easygoing, with plenty of laughter and camaraderie, but still focused enough to create some stunning, polished images. From tying ties to final checks before stepping into the ceremony space, every moment was captured naturally, giving a full story of Ross’s morning alongside Sam’s preparations.

The Wedding CEREMONY at Thief Hall.
The wedding ceremony took place inside Thief Hall, and I approached it in a completely fly-on-the-wall way, quietly capturing everything as it unfolded. With the weather earlier in the day, the indoor setting felt calm and intimate, allowing everyone to focus fully on Sam and Ross.

Confetti & Formal Group PICTUREs
Once the ceremony was over, the rain finally lifted and we were able to head outside, which couldn’t have been better timed. It meant Sam and Ross could enjoy a proper confetti moment, and it did not disappoint. The confetti was fantastic. Big smiles, laughter everywhere, and that just married energy that always makes this part of the day so fun to photograph.
After letting the hugs happen and giving everyone a moment to breathe, we moved into the formal group pictures. I always keep these relaxed and efficient. They matter, but they don’t need to take over the day. It’s often the only time you’ll have all the people who mean the most to you together in one place, looking this good, so it’s important to capture it properly. With Thief Hall as the backdrop and the mood feeling lighter now the weather had cleared, the group photos felt easy and natural, and everyone could get back to enjoying the celebrations without feeling rushed.

Couple wedding day images
For their couple portraits, we took Sam and Ross away for around twenty minutes, giving them a bit of breathing space away from the main celebrations. We headed to a nearby woodland, which offered a completely different feel to the venue and worked beautifully for something a little more intimate.
That short break gave them a chance to slow things down, have a quiet moment together, and just enjoy being married. The setting allowed us to capture relaxed, natural images, with plenty of closeness and genuine connection. No pressure, no over posing. Just the two of them, away from the noise, creating some truly stunning photographs that feel personal and timeless.

Speeches and wedding breakfast
The wedding breakfast and speeches at Thief Hall were where the party really started to build. From the moment Sam and Ross were introduced into the room, the atmosphere lifted straight away. Thief Hall really know how to get things going, and it showed.
Before the speeches began, guests were given a challenge. Each table had a puzzle to solve, with the prize being the honour of opening the Prosecco for the speeches first. Naturally, the winning table also walked away with an extra bottle, which only added to the excitement. It was great fun to photograph, full of reactions, competitiveness, and plenty of laughter.
That energy carried perfectly into the speeches. They were fantastic. I captured everything as it happened, working quietly and letting moments unfold naturally. The laughter, the tears, and everything in between were all there, making this part of the gallery feel lively, emotional, and very true to the day.

Rain on Your wedding day?
The day had its share of rain, but Sam and Ross embraced it completely, and it became part of their wedding story rather than a disruption. Whenever there was a break in the clouds, we made the most of it, heading outside for a few quick shots in the sun and capturing those fleeting bright moments.
Even later in the evening, I suggested a quick venture outside for a twilight image in the rain. I think they thought I was a little crazy at first, but with an umbrella keeping them dry, the result was stunning. The raindrops catching the light added an extra layer of magic, creating a unique, intimate image that would never have happened on a dry day. It’s one of those moments that makes a wedding gallery feel personal, adventurous, and completely their own.

Evening Wedding Party.
As the evening kicked off at Thief Hall, the energy was high and the party was in full swing. Guests were on the dance floor, laughing, celebrating, and letting loose after a day full of emotion and fun. Sam and Ross shared their first dance, a moment of intimacy in the middle of all the excitement, and it set the tone for a night of carefree celebration.
The evening also included the cake cut, which added another playful moment to the day. Capturing the laughter, the reactions, and the little interactions around the cake is always a joy, especially in a relaxed, energetic environment like this. Every moment, from the dance floor antics to the smiles and cheers around the cake, was captured naturally, telling the story of a wedding that was as fun and lively as it was full of love.

Sam and Ross’s wedding at Thief Hall was a perfect mix of fun, energy, and intimate moments. From the relaxed morning preparations to the lively indoor ceremony, the playful confetti, and the unforgettable evening party, every part of the day was captured naturally and beautifully. Even a little rain couldn’t dampen the celebrations, and it added moments that were both unique and memorable. Their day was full of laughter, love, and joy—a wedding that perfectly reflected who they are and the life they’re starting together.
