My Approach to Wedding Photography at Burntwood Court

I photograph the day as it happens. Most of it you will not notice me doing. I will get everyone together for the family groups you want and I will find the two of you twenty quiet minutes, but the rest of the day is yours to enjoy rather than pose for.

You get 800 or more edited images back within three weeks, and there are 73 five-star Google reviews from couples I have worked with. Brierley is a short run down the M1 from West Yorkshire, so Burntwood is somewhere I get to often.

Photographing a Wedding at Burntwood Court

The chapel is the reason to book this place. It is licensed in its own right, it has oak beams, and it is a proper room to marry in rather than a function suite with chairs turned round. Ceremony pictures in there look like a ceremony rather than a conference.

After that you have the Brierley Suite, the Qube and the Woodlands Restaurant to move between, which means the day changes scenery as it goes – useful, because a set of pictures from one room all afternoon starts to look the same however good the room is.

Outside there are 35 acres of landscaped grounds with gardens and a bandstand. The bandstand is the obvious spot and it earns it, but the gardens give you plenty else, and none of it is a long walk. Twenty minutes covers what you need.

The Grounds

Thirty-five acres of landscaped grounds sit around the venue, with gardens, a bandstand and plenty of room for guests to spread out on a warm afternoon. There is a spa and fitness suite on site too, which is worth knowing if you are getting ready there in the morning.

Why Choose Burntwood Court?

Its own licensed chapel is the headline – not many venues at this end of South Yorkshire have one, and it changes the feel of the ceremony completely.

Beyond that it is the range: four different spaces, 35 acres of grounds, a spa on site, and an easy run from Barnsley, Wakefield and the M1. A day there can move around instead of sitting in one room from noon until midnight.

Planning Your Burntwood Court Wedding

Burntwood Court sits on Common Road in Brierley, near Barnsley, within easy reach of Wakefield, Pontefract and Doncaster. That makes it an easy place for guests from right across West and South Yorkshire to get to, and it’s one of the reasons so many couples from the Five Towns and Barnsley look at it first.

Having the chapel on site changes the whole shape of the day. There’s no travelling between a church and a reception, so the time you would have spent in cars goes back into the day: a longer drinks reception, a relaxed walk round the grounds for portraits, or simply more time with your guests. From my side, it means I can capture the ceremony, the confetti and the first drinks without anyone rushing to the next venue.

The venue’s wedding packages include the practical things couples often forget about until late on: a toastmaster for the day, a guest seating plan, a flowered archway with two matching pedestals, a cake stand and knife, and a complimentary room and breakfast for the two of you. A toastmaster is a real help with the photography too, because they keep the day running to time and gather people for the family groups, so we get them done quickly and you’re back with your guests.

If you’d like a calm start to the day, the on-site spa and the bridal suite make it easy to get ready here rather than at home. Getting ready in one place keeps the morning simple, and it gives me lovely, natural pictures of the dress, the details and the last few nerves before the ceremony.

For portraits, the 35 acres of landscaped grounds, the gardens and the bandstand are all close by, so twenty minutes is plenty. With the Signature and Complete packages we’ll pop out again after sunset for fifteen minutes of twilight portraits. Planning a wedding nearby? Have a look at my Barnsley wedding photography page, or check if I’m free on your date.

With the Chapel, the Brierley Suite, the Qube and the Woodlands Restaurant all on site, Burntwood Court can take anything from 30 to 300 guests, so it’s worth asking the team which room suits your numbers best when you look round. A room that fits your guest list well always feels warmer and fuller in the pictures than a big room that’s half empty.

The chapel’s floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of natural light, which is lovely for the ceremony. If you have a choice of times, a late morning or early afternoon ceremony gives soft, even light through those windows, and leaves plenty of the day for drinks and portraits outside.

Burntwood Court Wedding Questions

Yes. Burntwood Court has its own chapel, licensed for civil ceremonies, with oak beams and floor to ceiling windows, so the ceremony and the reception happen in the same place.

35 acres of landscaped grounds with gardens, a bandstand and open countryside views, which gives plenty of options for photographs without going far from the building.

If you are still choosing, my guide to the best wedding venues in Yorkshire may help.
