Photographing a Wedding in York

The venues around York are wonderfully varied: an old threshing barn on a family farm, a country house with a thousand acres of lakes and woodland, a Victorian hotel with formal gardens, and a glamping estate up near Bedale.

I love the getting ready. Bridesmaids, flowers, a few nerves and a lot of laughing, and I’ll quietly catch it all as it happens.

Some of my favourite pictures are the unexpected ones, like a groom having a tattoo on the wedding morning. I’ll always be watching for the moments that make your day yours.

Portraits take about twenty minutes, then I’ll leave you to enjoy your drinks. With the Signature or Complete package we’ll pop out again in the evening for fifteen minutes of twilight pictures.

York Venues I Know

These are the venues around York I photograph. Each one has its own page with more about the venue and the real weddings I’ve photographed there.

The Normans

Bride and groom walking near brick building.

The Normans is at Bilbrough, about 15 minutes from York: an 18th-century farm run by the same family for three generations. You marry in the Ceremony Barn, an old threshing barn with bare brick walls and a high vaulted ceiling, and the venue is yours for three days. See Rebecca & Jonathan’s wedding.

Sandburn Hall

Bride and groom by a pond, her veil blowing in the wind

Sandburn Hall is at Flaxton, just outside York, in 1,000 acres of lakes and woodland. You can marry in the Grand Hall or outside in the White Rose Garden under the folly, and it only ever hosts one wedding a day. Have a look at Lucie & Sam’s and Sally & Ryan’s weddings.

The Parsonage Hotel

The Parsonage is at Escrick, about six miles south of York, built in the early 1840s and set in six acres of formal gardens and woodland. The Crystal Suite looks over the garden and has its own bar. See Deborah & Lee’s wedding.

Aldwark Manor

A tender moment between Sara and Scott captured on a quaint wooden bridge at Aldwark Manor amidst lush greenery and delicate autumn leaves, symbolizing the beginning of their shared journey in life.

Aldwark Manor sits between York and Harrogate near Alne, with the River Ure running through the estate. It’s licensed for civil ceremonies, and Sara & Scott married here.

Camp Katur

Camp Katur is on a 300-acre estate at Kirklington, near Bedale, with a Woodland Chapel, a Hay Barn and a Safari Tent all licensed for ceremonies, and geodomes and lodges for your guests. See Katie & Mikolaj’s wedding, and for another barn day up that way, Sophie & James’s.
