How Many Wedding Photos Will You Receive?
One of the most common questions I hear from couples is, “How many photos will we receive from our wedding?” It’s a perfectly reasonable thing to wonder! While the final number can vary depending on a few factors, I typically deliver between 600 or more images for a full-day wedding.
Why Does the Number Vary?
Every wedding is unique, so it’s impossible to give an exact figure. That said, I always prioritise quality over quantity. On the day, I’ll take thousands of photos to ensure I capture every moment beautifully. However, many of those will be near duplicates.
For example, I might take six photos of the same group to make sure no one is blinking or fifty shots of confetti being thrown to find just the right one where you’re beaming, and the confetti isn’t covering your face. My job during editing is to carefully select the very best images to tell the story of your day.
What Factors Influence the Number of Photos?
Several elements can affect how many images you receive:
- The length of your wedding day.
- Whether you have a second photographer.
- The size of your guest list.
- How many events or details you include.
Here’s a general breakdown of what you might expect for different parts of your day:
- Getting Ready: 100–150 photos, depending on how many people are with you and whether both of you have a photographer.
- The Ceremony: Around 100 images, including the key moments and guest reactions.
- Drinks Reception: About 100 candid shots of you and your guests mingling.
- Group Photos: Most couples choose 10–20 group shots, which we’ll plan ahead of the day.
- Details: Expect 50–100 images of things like your dress, flowers, rings, table settings, and other carefully chosen elements.
- Couple Portraits: Between 20 and 50 images, including a session before the wedding breakfast and another around sunset.
- Speeches: Typically 50–75 photos, focusing on speakers and guests’ reactions.
- Evening Reception: 100–150 images, including your first dance, evening guests, and plenty of dance floor fun. If you have sparklers or fireworks, we’ll capture those too.

Wedding Photo Number FAQs
How many photos will we receive from our wedding day?
I deliver 600 or more fully edited images from a full wedding day. The exact number moves with how long I am there, how many guests you have and how much is going on, but 600 is the floor rather than the target.
When will we get our wedding photos?
Your full gallery is ready three to four weeks after the wedding. It arrives as a password-protected online gallery you can share with family, with print ordering built in.
Why do we not get every photo taken on the day?
Because most of them are duplicates. Across a wedding day I will shoot several thousand frames, many near identical. I might take six versions of the same group shot to be sure nobody blinked, or fifty of the confetti to find the one where you are beaming and your face is clear. Editing is where I choose the keeper.
Do we get more images with a second photographer?
Yes. A second photographer covers what is happening elsewhere while I am with you, so more of the day is recorded and you receive more images. A second photographer is included in some of my packages and can be added to any full-day booking.
