As you arrive at Oulton Hall you will be met with a sweeping driveway that meanders through the large landscaped gardens before you arrive at the 18th-century mansion. The Hall has its own onside hotel which is perfect not only for the Bride and Groom to stay over the night before their wedding day but also for any guest who wants to stay before or after the wedding day. The hotel also offers a Spa and 27-hole golf course which you can take advantage of before your wedding day to truly help you relax.

History of Oulton Hall – West Yorkshire

In the little village of Oulton in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, there lies a stately country house hotel called Oulton Hall. Over 300 years ago, the hotel began a long and colourful history.  The first structure on the property was a manor house constructed in the middle of the 18th century by wealthy wool merchant John Blayds. The house has a symmetrical façade, sash windows, and a main entrance with a pedimented doorcase. It was built in the Georgian architectural style.  The Calverley family purchased the home in 1804, and they made extensive renovations to it. They constructed a new stable block to the south and a new wing with a ballroom and a library to the north.

The Midgley family bought the home in 1863, and they continued to expand and modernise it. They also installed contemporary plumbing and central heating, as well as a new entrance hall, billiards room, and conservatory.  The mansion was taken over by the military and served as a hospital for wounded soldiers during World War One. The building was bought by Leeds City Council after the war, who used it as a children’s home there until the 1960s.

De Vere Hotels and Resorts bought the home in the 1980s and turned it into the opulent hotel it is today. The hotel features 152 guest rooms and suites, a spa, a golf course, as well as a number of dining options.  Much of the building’s original Georgian architecture has survived the many alterations and additions made over the years. The hotel is encircled by 300 acres of lovely grass, and its interior is decorated with antique elements including grand staircases, elaborate plasterwork, and ancient fireplaces.  Today, Oulton Hall is one of Leeds’ most well-known hotels, drawing travellers from all over the globe to experience its rich history, opulent amenities, and breathtaking surroundings.

Oulton Hall has a number of different options for your wedding day including options for different locations to hold your ceremony and reception.  With all of the rooms licensed for Civil Ceremonies, you are spoilt for choice.

The Oulton Wedding Suite can accommodate up to 300 wedding day guests.

The Repton Room has a maximum capacity of 120 guests.

The Upper Claret Jug can hold up to 150 wedding guests.

My Wedding Photography Style

There are a number of different approaches to wedding photography.  I think it’s so important that you take a moment to think which photography style will suit your wedding.  Are you wanting more posed pictures or more relaxed wedding pictures?  I find myself somewhere in the middle, with stunning portraits but also real natural moments.  I think I know how to blend these two different styles of photography.  I know when a more documentary style of photography is needed but also when a bit more direction would really help, the group pictures for example.

Golf at Oulton Hall – West Yorkshire

Oulton Hall has its very own on-site 27-hole golf complex.  This can be perfect for relaxing before or after your wedding day.  Occasionally we might sneak on to the golf course for a couple of wedding day pictures of you both.  The golf course its self was designed by Dave Thomas, there are a team of qualified tutors, a practice green and of course golf buggies for getting around.
