Michael & Jacqueline – Hazlewood Castle Wedding

Michael and Jacqueline chose Hazelwood Castle for their wedding, and honestly, it could not have suited them more. Set in the Yorkshire countryside, the castle has this quiet sense of history about it. Grand, but never overwhelming. Their wedding took place in March, and they were lucky with one of those early spring days that feels fresh and full of promise. Blue skies, soft light, and just enough warmth to remind everyone that winter was finally done.

As a Hazelwood Castle wedding photographer, days like this are a joy to document. Everything happened on site, which meant the day flowed naturally from start to finish. With two photographers covering the wedding, we were able to tell the full story without rushing or forcing moments. The overall feel was elegant and relaxed, with space for real emotion and calm enjoyment. No pressure to perform. Just Michael and Jacqueline, their people, and a beautiful venue doing what it does best.

What made you choose Hazlewood Castle?

The character of the venue, the rooms and how it’s decorated. Lots of good places both inside and outside for photographs. It’s a small venue. It has some grounds to walk around (including a nice courtyard) – both for guests and offering photo options.

How did you personalise your wedding to the two of you?

We’ve made most decisions relating to the wedding together. We’ve tried to keep things simple and focus on what we want for the day.

Michael and Jacqueline both got ready at Hazelwood Castle, which always makes the morning feel calm and unhurried. There’s no travelling around, no clock watching. Just space to settle into the day. The rooms at the castle are full of character, with soft window light and plenty of quiet corners, perfect for relaxed, natural images.

With two photographers, we could be in both places at once. I stayed with Jacqueline while my second photographer spent the morning with Michael, making sure both sides of the story were covered properly. The atmosphere was elegant but easygoing. A few thoughtful moments, some gentle nerves, and lots of anticipation building as the ceremony time edged closer. It was one of those mornings where nothing felt forced. Everything just… happened.

The CEREMONY

The ceremony took place inside Hazelwood Castle, and it was every bit as elegant as you’d expect. The historic interior gave the moment a real sense of occasion, with soft spring light filtering in and wrapping the room beautifully. There was a calm, almost still feeling as guests took their seats. The kind where people instinctively lower their voices.

As Michael and Jacqueline exchanged their vows, the focus stayed firmly on them. No distractions, no rush. Just genuine emotion and a quiet confidence between the two of them. Having two photographers meant we could capture the ceremony from different perspectives at the same time. One focused on the bigger picture, the setting, the reactions, the atmosphere. The other stayed close, catching those subtle expressions and fleeting glances that couples often don’t even realise are happening. It was a thoughtful, intimate ceremony, and one that suited both the couple and the castle perfectly.

Wedding Day COnfetti

After the ceremony, Michael and Jacqueline were greeted by their friends and family with a shower of confetti. The moment was full of joy and laughter, with petals floating through the air and everyone celebrating the newlyweds. It’s one of those moments that always brings out genuine smiles and spontaneous reactions, and the castle’s courtyard made a perfect backdrop for capturing it beautifully.

Family Group Pictures

Family group pictures are always an important part of the day, but at Hazelwood Castle, we kept them short and relaxed. It’s a rare moment where so many loved ones are together, looking their best, and it’s worth capturing without dragging things out.

By keeping the session calm and easygoing, everyone could enjoy themselves while we got a few classic, timeless images that Michael and Jacqueline will treasure. The castle provided a beautiful backdrop, giving the photos a sense of elegance while still feeling natural and unforced.

Wedding day PORTRAITS around Hazelwood Castle.

After the formalities, Michael and Jacqueline took some time for portraits around the stunning Hazelwood Castle grounds. We kept things relaxed, letting them interact naturally, laugh, and enjoy a few quiet moments together, while still creating images that are striking and timeless.

The castle and its surroundings provided a beautiful variety of backdrops—stone walls, manicured gardens, and sweeping views that all added to the elegance of the images. These portraits aren’t about forced poses; they’re about capturing connection, personality, and the joy of being together on such a special day. Even in a calm, relaxed session, it’s possible to come away with photographs that feel both natural and show-stopping.

Wedding Day Speeches.

The speeches at Hazelwood Castle were full of warmth and genuine emotion. I worked in a fly-on-the-wall style, capturing every laugh, tear, and heartfelt word without interrupting the natural flow. From proud parents to close friends sharing stories, every reaction and smile was documented, creating images that really tell the story of the day.

Evening Reception

The evening reception at Hazelwood Castle was relaxed and full of gentle joy. It wasn’t a high-energy party, but the atmosphere was warm, with plenty of moments to soak in the day and enjoy time with friends and family.

Michael and Jacqueline shared their first dance, an intimate moment that set the tone for the rest of the evening. Guests mingled, laughed, and celebrated in a calm, elegant way, allowing the day to wind down beautifully while still capturing special memories. The castle’s interiors provided a stylish backdrop, making even quiet moments feel timeless and photogenic.

Twilight Wedding Photography

Before the day came to a close, Michael and Jacqueline enjoyed a few final moments outside, creating some magical twilight images. The soft evening light gave the photographs a warm, almost cinematic quality. Highlights included a celebratory champagne spray and a sparkler image, adding a little sparkle and fun to the calm elegance of the day.

These images provide a perfect finishing touch to their wedding gallery—timeless, romantic, and a little bit different from the daytime shots. Hazelwood Castle’s grounds offered the ideal backdrop for these after-dark moments, giving Michael and Jacqueline signature photos they’ll treasure forever.
